Important Mobile Home Tax Information

Mail Payments must be postmarked no later than July 12, 2019 to avoid late penalty. Payments may be made by check and should be mailed to:

In-Person Payments may be made at the Sangamon County Treasurer’s Office no later than July 12, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. to avoid late penalty. Both cash and checks are accepted as payments.

Prior Year Unpaid Taxes
Payoff amounts and payment amounts for prior year’s unpaid taxes are handled in Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray’s office. The office phone number is (217) 753-6700.

Assessment Period
On January 1st of each year, mobile home owners are responsible for Mobile Home Local Services Tax. The tax is calculated by multiplying the rate (based on the age of the mobile home) times the square footage of the mobile home. Click here for chart.

Annual Registration
Each local mobile home park owner is required to register each mobile home entering such park within 5 days with Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray’s Office. Homes not located in a park must register with the County Clerk’s Office within 30 days of placement. Once a home is registered, a registration form is sent to the homeowner annually in January to update exemption status and billing information. Failure to register does not relieve tax liability.

Senior or Disabled Citizen Exemption and Circuit Breaker
Senior or disabled citizens may apply and receive an exemption which reduces their mobile home tax by 20%. You will need to show proof of age or disability. Contact the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office for more information at (217) 753-6705. Seniors and Disabled citizens may also apply and receive a grant to assist in paying taxes.

Moving, Selling or Transferring Title of Mobile Home
All mobile home taxes must be paid before a moving permit is issued by the Sangamon County Treasurer’s office, or a certification of taxes paid is issued to the Secretary of State for transferring the title on a mobile home. Tax Due Date
Mobile home taxes must be paid by 5:00 PM on Friday, July 12, 2019 to avoid late payment fees. See back of bill for payment options.

Late Payments
Bills paid after July 12, 2019 are subject to a $25 PER MONTH LATE FEE up to a maximum of $100. The dates on which an additional $25 late fee will be added are July 13th, August 13th, September 13th and October 13th. An additional $10 advertising fee will be added to unpaid bills as of September 21, 2019.

Annual Tax Sale
Bills not paid by November 7, 2019 will be sold at the annual tax sale. This adds $44 in fees plus additional interest to the amount outstanding. In addition, the buyer of the taxes may take title to the mobile home at the end of the redemption period.
